Color Bootcamp (basic oil painting)-Tuition - $699
Instructor Arthur Egeli teaches beginning oil painting in a step-by-step method. All work is done from life. Students begin with basic shapes and quickly move to more complicated shapes and objects as they develop their color vision. In many ways, Color Bootcamp seems like a beginning class, but the demands on a student are advanced as they try to catch the ever changing light of nature, just as the great impressionist Claude Monet once did. Each lesson begins with a short demonstration and lesson, with a clear objective presented for the students to master for that session. Among the topics presented are light, shade, and half-tone, edges, color value, tonal value, color depth, texture, simultaneous contrast, reflected light, and color modeling.
About the instructor
Arthur Egeli is an award winning painter who’s work has been featured in American Artist Magazine, Southwest Art, and many others. About Advanced Oil Painting
Advanced Oil Painting is an unstructured class in which students work side by side with instructor Arthur Egeli. There are rare lectures on advanced concepts such as "lost and found", "the halo effect", and modeling in color, but most teaching is done on an individual basis. In advanced painting, frequently students are at very different levels of accomplishment, but because the teaching is individualized, students can develop at their own pace. Frequently their are group critiques. About half the classes with have models posing and the other half will be landscape classes. The model set-ups are usually in genre setting, such as young women in a wedding dress or two women at a cafe. Each subject is painted for two consecutive days in the same light conditions (weather permitting). Both classes have a limit of twelve students and a non-refundable $50 deposit holds your place in each class, which can be sent to Arthur Egeli, 914 North Michigan Ave, Pasadena, CA. 91104. The balance of tuition is due on the first day of class. Advanced painting may be taken without instuction for $25. per class. Returning Color Bootcamp students can take the class for a second time for $30. per class.

I prefer the Stanrite 300 Deluxe or Stanrite 400 Lecturers' easel (enhanced with spring clamps.) (Do not be lead into buying a Stanrite 100 or 200 by an art store employee. They're too short. You may have to special order the 300.) 10 prepared masonite boards or canvases. 5 -12" by 16" and 5- 16" by 20". I prefer masonite over cotton canvas for outdoor painting. Of course you may use linen also, but I don't recommend it for the color studies. Get quarter inch thick, untempered or standard masonite at the lumber company, cut to size, then prepare it with two coats of Liquitex Gesso. Some will be available for sale at $6 each.Palette
